Income Tax Slabs 2025-26: New Regime Under Section 115BAC

The New Tax Regime under Section 115BAC is the default income tax regime for salaried individuals in India from FY 2023-24 onwards. How Much Tax on 10 Lakh, 15 Lakh, 20 Lakh Salary?

Income Up to How Much is Tax Free in India?

Under the New Tax Regime for FY 2025-26, income up to Rs 12,75,000 (twelve lakh seventy-five thousand) per annum is effectively tax free. This works through two mechanisms: a standard deduction of Rs 75,000 reduces your gross salary to taxable income, and then the Section 87A rebate of up to Rs 60,000 wipes out the entire tax liability for taxable income up to Rs 12 lakh. So Rs 12,75,000 - Rs 75,000 = Rs 12,00,000 taxable income, which gets full rebate.

Under the Old Tax Regime, the zero-tax limit is lower at Rs 5,00,000 (with Rs 12,500 rebate), but you can claim deductions under Section 80C (Rs 1.5L), 80D (health insurance), HRA exemption, and home loan interest to reduce your taxable income further.
